In his latest blog entry, director, Michael Bay has revealed that Transformers 3 is a-go.
Contrary to reports that the third part of the blockbuster franchise would be set for a 2012 release, Bay cut through the ambiguity by stating that the film will be released on July 1, 2011. Additionally, he has already been meeting with George Lucas’ Industrial Lights and Magic, and is meeting (as of today) at Rhode Island with representatives from Hasbro Toys to discuss new characters. (Because, to paraphrase Mel Brooks, at the end of the day, it’s all about “merchandising, where da real money from da movie is made.”)
In regards to Bay’s recent series of public spats (if you want to call it that) with his star, Megan Fox, Bay also wanted to clear the air a bit when he stated:
“P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you.”
You have to hand it to Bay. He may be a regular target of fanboy wrath, but he’s definitely a guy that knows where his bread and butter reside. There’s nothing delusional about the man; he’s clearly ready to lay the gauntlet down and throw some giant f*****g robots back on that screen, and he doesn’t give a crap if you like it or not. You have to respect the man for that. (Besides, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but his films make a few buck here and there.)
